Five posture mistakes Mumbai desk workers make daily
Apr 22, 2026 · 5 min read
Long hours at a laptop add up. These common habits quietly load the neck, upper back, and hips, and simple fixes can reduce daily stiffness.
There is no single perfect posture. The best position is usually the next one, movement matters more than holding still. That said, a few habits are so common among desk workers that fixing them can noticeably reduce daily neck, shoulder, and back stiffness.
1. Working off a laptop on a table
A laptop forces a trade-off: either the screen is too low, or the keyboard is too high. Looking down for hours loads the neck. Raise the screen to roughly eye level on a stand or a stack of books, and add a separate keyboard and mouse.
2. Sitting for hours without a break
Staying in one position is the real problem, not the position itself. Aim to change posture or stand up briefly every 30 to 45 minutes. A short walk to refill water counts.
3. The forward head and rounded shoulders
As focus deepens, the head drifts forward and the shoulders round. Over a full day this loads the neck and upper back. A simple reset: sit tall, gently draw the chin back, and roll the shoulders down a few times each hour.
4. Ignoring the feet and hips
Feet dangling or a chair that is too high shifts pressure to the lower back. Keep feet flat on the floor or a footrest, with hips and knees roughly level.
5. Phone at desk level
Between laptop and phone, the neck rarely gets a rest. Bring the phone up toward eye level rather than dropping your head to it, especially during long messages or scrolling.
The takeaway
You do not need a perfect setup, you need variety and a few small corrections. If stiffness or pain persists despite these changes, an assessment can identify what is driving it and give you a targeted plan.
